Candidate Spotlight – Victor Debianchi, Jr. for District 1

Victor “Vic” DeBianchi is a lifelong resident and civic minded citizen of Hollywood.  His civic involvement includes President Hollywood Kiwanis Club , Hollywood Civil Service Board, Hollywood YMCA Board, as well as leadership roles in the Broward County and the Nativity Parrish.

Mr. DeBianchi, “Vic” clearly defines his purpose and goals for being a City Commissioner;

1) Safe, secure, happy and healthy environment for our city.

2) Improve integrity. Create community through respect, caring and honesty.

3) Support those who look after us; the police, fire and city personnel.

AFSCME Local 2432 supports Victor DeBianchi because Vic will try to understand our issues, and understands there are more than one side of the issues to be considered.  Victor is not solely for Beach CRA. Vic is dedicated to improve life for everyone and everywhere in this city.

Vic needs our support.  We need Vic as District 1 Commissioner.
Join us on Tuesday, October 18th @ 6:30 PM at the Union Hall to work to make sure Victor DeBianchi gets elected as District 1 Commissioner.

Candidate Spotlight – Peter Hernandez for District 2

Pete “The People’s Commissioner” Hernandez has served the residents of District 2 with courage and integrity.  He has stood up to powerful developers and called out City mismanagement, so much so, that he has become a target on the City Commission.  He’s fought hard for the people of District 2 and has successfully pushed for infrastructure improvements for his community which had been neglected for years.

AFSCME supports Peter Hernandez for District 2 Commissioner because he tells it like it is and has had the workers’ back.  As a business owner in Hollywood, he knows the value of hard work and has shown his support for the employees who do their best to make Hollywood a better place.

Join us on Tuesday, October 18th @ 6:30 PM at the Union Hall to work to make sure Pete gets to continue his dedicated service to the people of Hollywood.

AFSCME LOCAL 2432 ELECTION 2016 ENDORSEMENTS

This election will be pivotal in determining the City’s direction.  As employees and residents, we’ve seen some of our best services outsourced (Sanitation, 911) and many City positions left unfilled.  We’re doing more with less and as a Union, we’ve come to the table to try and bridge the gap with City management.  Unfortunately, we are still a scapegoat and target during budget season.

We have interviewed the candidates and AFSCME Local 2432 proudly endorses:

MAYOR – ELEANOR SOBEL

DISTRICT 1 – VICTOR DEBIANCHI, JR.

DISTRICT 2 – PETER HERNANDEZ

DISTRICT 4 – BARRY FASKE

The members of Local 2432 made a difference in 2012 and we need to do it again this election.   Visit the candidates’ websites to learn more and to volunteer.  We need to be a part of the solution and get people elected who will support the workers of Hollywood.

Proposed Contract – Update

“Where’s the contract?”

Indeed…. where is the contract?

The back and forth of the process of ‘finalizing’ the contract is stalled on the City’s side for the moment. Now that the holidays have passed the process should be back on track, at least that is what we are being told.

There are still some things to schedule, and still some things to review, but the tentative plan is to have the contract ready for review later this week, the ratification vote by the members in about two weeks, and the ratification vote by the Commission and Pension Board by the end of the month.

We’ll update everyone as we get more information here and through the Stewards.
