Game on!

admin : May 29, 2013 4:00 pm : Important, Negotiations, News, Political

Most of you are aware that Local 2432 represents Three different Bargaining Units; General, Professional, and Supervisory. And if for whatever reason you didn’t know that, now you do.

Anyway….

It’s Contract Time and all three Units are at the bargaining table beginning this week. Technically Supervisory was there already as they have negotiated since last October, but this is the week it is all supposed to go from being tick marks in a calendar or email and switch to actual real negotiations.

Like the title says… Game on!

We’ll share more details as they become available

Many of you have asked about the Memo of Understanding on the Holiday Pay, what is it, when is it, do we support it, what did we give up….. The very shortest answer is “we support it.”

Barbara Duffy has given us the official explanation (below) for the three M.O.U.’s and we have attached them for your review. All of these letters will be available for your review on Tuesday, Oct 30, at the Union Hall. ALL Employees who are covered by any of these three contracts are eligible to vote even if they are not an active member of the Union.

Re:      Explanation of Holiday Pay MOU – General Employees Unit

_________________________________________________________

The attached MOU pertaining to Article 32 of the General Employees Unit will, if ratified by the Bargaining Unit, reinstate the 6 days of Holiday pay which the City eliminated via its declared Financial Urgency. However, by ratifying the attached MOU the Bargaining Unit will be agreeing to waive any and all claims it may have against the City as it relates to the actions the City took in its modification of Article 32.

In addition, the Bargaining Unit will be agreeing to withdraw, with prejudice, all grievances related to the City’s modification of Article 32 via its declared Financial Urgency.

Finally, the Bargaining Unit will be agreeing to eliminate the long standing past practice of the City of allowing ALL non sworn members of the PD, Beach Safety and the Golf Course to be eligible for the two floating holidays per calendar year as provided in Section 3 of Article 32. Instead, only those employees in the job classifications reflected in paragraph 4 of the MOU will be eligible for those floating holidays.

Generous Contracts?

admin : September 5, 2012 2:41 pm : Important, Negotiations, News, Political

The City of Hollywood, Florida, regularly scheduled meeting is in session. Being presented at this particular moment is the Resolution that is ‘formally’ imposing the contract changes on the three bargaining units represented by AFSCME Local 2432.

By the time you read this the meeting, at least this part of it, will be over so you will have to either wait for the re-broadcast or file a Public Records Request.

We, as Local 2432, will be filing a request for the records so we can share here some of the specific issues the Commissioners and their outside Legal Counsel point out as being the fault of us, the employees of Hollywood.

Yes, today’s presentation is just a formality. It is the last step of many in a process that started over a year ago with the Special Referendum.

But!

We as Local 2432 know something the City Commission doesn’t….. it’s an election year.  And after today’s presentation, or maybe because of today’s presentation, we as Local 2432 are more willing than ever to put time, money, and effort into making a change in leadership this November.
